How do I decide what cover I need?
The more you have covered, the more expensive it is. However, a brief summary of cover may help you make a more informed decision.
What is premises cover?
Premises cover is cover for the building itself, if you rent the building this may not be needed but please check with your landlord first.
What is stock cover?
This covers your stock against insured perils. Stock may be divided into different categories as some stock is deemed higher risk than others. For example, leather jackets are considered to be a high theft risk.
What is business interruption?
This gives you cover if your normal trade is affected by an insured peril such as fire or flood. Standard cover is for 12 months but you can chose a longer period if you think it necessary.
What is public liability cover?
This cover gives protection should a member of the public suffer an injury or damage to their property or person whilst on your premises. For example, if they slip on a wet floor and hurt themselves.
What is servicing liability/defective workmanship cover?
This will offer cover for accidental bodily injury or property damage. Subject to the policy conditions.
What is employer's liability cover?
This is cover is required by law if you employ staff and covers you if a member of staff has an accident at work and then progresses to make a claim against you.
What is engineering inspection?
This cover is recommended if your staff use any form of lifting gear. This will give your workshop a clean bill of health for any plant that requires inspection. Some plant and in particular, lifting gear are required to be inspected at least once a year.
Lifting Operations and Lifting Equipment Regulations 1998 (LOLER) need to be adhered to.
What is accompanied/unaccompanied demonstration cover?
This cover will enable you to allow potential customers to test drive a vehicle before purchasing.
What is loan and hire cover?
This cover allows you to loan or hire a vehicle to a customer who has brought their own vehicle in to you for service or repair.
What is road risk?
This gives cover for your vehicles used on the road, whether it is your own vehicle or whether you are road testing a customer’s vehicle.
Can I insure vehicles belonging to my staff under a trade policy?
What if I only employ sub-contractors, do I still need employer's liability insurance?
Yes, they are still in your employment.
What is a warranty on my policy?
A warranty is applied to a policy when insurers need to make sure that certain requirements are complied with. If a warranty is applied to a policy it MUST be fully complied with. It may prejudice a claim if not fully observed.
Can I pay by instalments?
Yes, instalment facilities are available.
Will you come out and see me if I have a problem?
Yes, whilst we are based in Romford, we have staff that can visit to discuss any issues.
Can you cover my personal motorcycle for training purposes also?
Most instructors will have their own bike insured for personal use in connection with tuition but if not, your bike can be included on your policy for your business use.
What is professional indemnity?
This offers cover for negligent tuition and unlike other policies, ours does include bodily injury.
What is employer's liability cover?
This is cover is required by law if you employ staff and covers you if a member of staff has an accident at work and then progresses to make a claim against you.
What is all risks cover?
A standard policy covers the bikes whilst in use. This cover also extends the policy to cover overnight storage in a secure building or container.
What is loan and hire cover?
This extends the policy to include the hire of 50cc up to 125cc motorcycles for your more competent students, so that they can practice their riding after they have attained their CBT.
Can vans and pickups be included in my policy?
Yes, these can be included if they are used primarily in connection with motorcycle training.

What if I have separate insurance for my public liability?
That’s ok. We are happy to tailor the policy to suit you.
If a student passes his test can he ride back to the ATB site alone?
Yes, providing he takes the direct route. We understand that you may have a group booking and it is not reasonable to ask the first student to hang around for another couple of hours whilst other candidates take their test.
