Young Driver insurance overview

Getting the right insurance for you...

Younger drivers will usually have to pay more for their insurance than more experienced drivers. Statistically, they’re more likely to be involved in an accident – but here at Devitt, we know that being a young driver does not mean that you’re a dangerous driver and so we work with leading insurers from around the UK to push down your premium, which should free up a bit of spare cash for impromptu weekends away!

It’s really easy to get a quote. If you’re in a hurry, you can fill out the details online – just give us some info like where you live, the model of your car, the make of your car, your driving history, whether or not you have any no claims and whether or not you have any additional driving experience, for example, if you’ve taken an advanced driving course.

If you have a little bit of time and you fancy a chat, you can also give our Quote Line a call on 0345 872 3614 and we’ll go into everything in a bit more detail.

What will my insurance cost?

We can’t promise that your insurance will be cheap as chips, but there are a few things you can do to reduce your premium. If you’re a young driver, the easiest way to reduce your premium is by going on an advanced driving course. On these courses, you’ll drive in various conditions, including in the rain and fog, at night, on the motorway and more.

The idea behind taking an advanced driving course is that it shows insurers that you’re less of a risk, which means that your insurance will be cheaper. Typically, young drivers find that the cost of the advanced driving course is covered by the insurance discount over a period of one or two years – and the discounts keep on coming year after year, so it’s definitely worth investing in the course if you have the time and the budget.

How do I reduce the cost of my insurance as a young driver?

Another way to keep your premiums down is to make sure that your car is locked away somewhere safe and secure overnight. If not, having an alarm and an immobiliser is really important. Adding heavy modifications, like a more powerful exhaust or large speakers, will drastically increase your premium and so if at all possible you should really leave your car as it is!
