Yamaha MT-125 Bike Overview
If Yamaha has ever produced a youth oriented bike for today’s generation – the Yamaha MT-125 is the bike. It has all the makings of a champion with a perfect blend of handling and design, which makes it an ideal bike for first time bike owners. The bike has the best of features including great designing, top quality parts and brilliant balance and stability.
Its 15 bhp motor is powerful and just waiting to be revved on the motorway to commute to work. It is stable at 85 mph, no sweat. The fuel economy is decent at about 134 mpg, which is a definite improvement on the previous model. It is lightweight too – just about 138kg, which makes it agile enough to weave through busy city traffic and powerful enough when you raise the throttle to zoom through the crowd.
It offers splendid manoeuvrability around tight corners and the suspensions work smoothly even on bumpy or potholed roads. The front brake features a radial mounted calliper braking mechanism that makes it stop still in its tracks.
The engine is a liquid cooled Minarelli which is time tested and extremely reliable, so there would be no problems at that end. Its digital dash is trendy and offers a host of features all at the switch of a button. The headlight is a sharp LED that is extremely bright and offers excellent visibility in even the foggiest of conditions.
Looks-wise, the company has improvised by giving the bike a heavy roadster appearance with a hunched down riding position, wide bars and a shortened tail. Not a bad bike overall.

Built to impress
Good
Takes corners really well
Powerful
Doesn't cost a lot at all
Pros
Great starter bike, nice to ride and solidly built.
Cons
Top end power could be better, hitting 80 plus would give the bike much more ridability.

The bike is well balanced, solid built and very nice size for a 125. Its on the bigger build size for a 125, including the tyres. They are 110 front and 130 back which gives you confidence in the corners, keeps the bike nice a settled on the road and rides smoothly.
The MT feels well built with some nice additions such as Upside down telescopic forks, digital display, ABS and good solid size frame. Since owning the bike I haven't had any issues with the bike, starting first time passing MOTs with fly colours.
Breaks feel responsive and sharp. The bike is heavy but stops well. The extra ABS function is a really nice safety feature too and works well.
The bike is fairly big for a 125 with the wide tyres. It weighs slightly heavier for a 125 but it's complemented by front forks, good build quality and excellent tyres. It allows it to grip well into the corners and allows good lean
The bike is fun for a 125 fairly punchy similar to the YZFR but more street and less aggressive riding style. It zipps well down windy roads and even through city traffic. It can hit speed of 70mph if keep it in the power band.
Running cost are fairly low. Filling the tank costs little over double digits and for the MPG high 80s-90s are the norm. A full take will last a while even with some more adventurous riding days.
Pros
Great little bike for a beginner but can also do 70mph with relative ease. Light, maneuverable and great build quality. The styling, looks great.
Cons
The seat couple be improved

Corners fine, and only weighs 145kg even with my top box and fuel etc.
Supposed top end of 85 mph, I weigh 17st 4lbs and have pushed it close to its top end. And I am getting 124mpg, which makes it perfect for my daily commute, but wish there was a bit more for my coast runs.
124 mpg, one month I spent less than £11 on fuel, very economical.
Brought from new, still under warrentee. Two minor appearance issues was resolved strait away. Done 1500 miles on it now and not had any mechanical issues.
After having some idiot pull out of me, with them ignoring a giveaway sign giving me less than half the distance I originally had to brake in, can only give it 5 stars. My bike does have ABS though.
Pros
Economy and eco friendly, cheap to run and maintain. Very reliable. Great fun and highly recomended, from an older biker. It looks too cool for school.
Cons
For a 125 I can't imagine anything better, and I did own a Duke 125 when they first came out.

Rides easy, smooth and zippy. Traffic scalpal. Flickable. Great for the streets. Long motorway journeys can get a bit boring as it;s comfotable doing about 70. I am use to a 650 though.
Brilliant commute or gentle ride out, long motorways leave me wanting more power. Steep long hill also have me remembering my 650. Fantastic through the streets and city.
£19 Tax 100mpg £95 insurance but I do have a full licence and loads of no claims. About £200 for new riders, with a CBT. Very ecomomical and easy on the environment.
Bullet proof! Never any problems.
Excellent ABS, firm and strong very forgiving.
Pros
Acceleration
Cons
There is no space under the seat at all. Would be nice to have some storage somewhere.

Lightweight. Corners are taking very easy.
it's only 125, so for this capacity it's really powerful.
It's very cheap to run
Never broken down
Brakes are really great.
Pros
The looks and the handling, the cost to run is an added bonus. I often get stopped in the street when I dismount and people want to talk about it. All in all a fantastic bike. Very comfy, handles like a dream, looks like a big bike and very se*y.
Cons
The only thing I'd like to change is the look of the exhaust. I'd also like the headlight to be LED. It has LED sidelights but a yellow looking headlight, nothing major, perhaps I am just vain?!

I love riding this bike. Although a 'sit up and beg' I throw it into corners and get it low. Gear changes are smooth, throttle is just as smooth. Very light to ride, looks like a big bike, handles like a dream!
It's a 125, quick off the mark, will do 70mph. It's fun but I will be doing my full licence and getting its big sister.
The only thing I'd like to change is the look of the exhaust. I'd also like the headlight to be LED. It has LED sidelights but a yellow looking headlight, nothing major, perhaps I am just vain?!
Being a Yamaha overall build quality is good. Doesn't look or feel cheap. Never broken down as I regularly check the oil and change the filters.
Cannot fault, I've had a few close calls where drives have pulled out in front of me etc. Very hard to skid or lock the brakes.
