Yamaha MT-07 Bike Overview
Yamaha’s MT range started back in 2005 with the MT-01, a curious cruiser-engined V-twin roadster, extending to the MT-03 660cc single-cylinder roadster in 2006. It went a bit quiet then until 2014 when the firm brought out the MT-09 triple followed by the MT-10 four and various other sporty roadsters.

Including this – the MT-07. First launched in 2014 alongside the MT-09, it used an all-new 689cc parallel twin engine in a standard naked roadster chassis, and was an instant hit amongst novice riders and folk looking for a simple, economic, fun middleweight.
The engine is its big strength, putting out impressive amounts of grunt, with around 74bhp peak power and a very direct feel to the conventional fuel injection throttle (rather than a ride-by-wire setup). It’s great on fuel when you’re bring sensible, and great on fun when you’re being silly, giving the best of both worlds. The brakes are also fab, using Yamaha’s excellent Sumitomo four-piston calipers and a fairly decent ABS setup.
Early models suffered from indifferent suspension performance, but the 2018 update brought extensive damping updates, putting the MT-07 on par with the best of the competition. And the latest version is a very sorted, capable little middleweight roadster, that’s spot-on for commuting and twisty back road fun.

Comfortable for journey time approx 1 hour without stopping. Firm but comfortable seat and upright riding position you would expect from a naked bike.

For pillion is absouletely uncomfortable. The seat is so tiny and it only does the job to move someone in short distance. For longer rides alone one need to take alot breaks. I would say 1 hour in saddle is a maximum to be comfortable, then break is necessary. After one hour one focus more on pain than road which is dangerous...

I would say does the job, but combined with engine braking is great. You have to know your bike to use it properly and when you know what to expect and mix engine breaking and brakes together it is good stoping power. Newbies pull the clutch in and expect brakes to do the job. Engine braking and brakes together without touching a clutch is good.
It is light but for perfect cornering rear break need to be used a lot.
Low RPM torque is great for slow speed in the city and overating from slow speed to get to the traffic lights fast, but any car could easily over take you as this bike feels unstable at 65+ MPH on roads which allowes to.
If one is a "pig" and rev the engine high all the time it could be pricey. But when relaxed and listen the engine and obey the speed limits it could cost 100 miles no more than £6.

For the price it handles very week. Probably because it's so light
As a commuter it is perfect. Will do 70mpg if I'm careful but still pulls away nicely if required and the front wheel is easy to get up if you fancy it. (Not me of course though)

Ride quality is almost spot, could do with a better suspension to really stick to the corners.
Engine is superb plenty of torque and plenty of useable power.
Extremely fuel efficient with built in eco mode. Even with me pasting it I still get 150 miles to a tank.
For a budget bike it's built extremely well. No complaints.
Braking is very good with and that works spot on, but could always be a bit better, this could be solved with an upgrade.

The seat is comfortable, due to the naked nature – it's okay up to 70mph, no stress. On the motorway, over 70mph you can feel the wind – but the seat is very comfortable for longer rides.

The reason I bought an mt07 is because of the upright bars as I've got short arms and the fact it sits relevantly low which boosts your confidence when riding, it's also light weight and pretty fast making it easy to handle throughout the corners.

The bike is very light weight and easy to manoeuvre in many situations. once you're used to the power output and torque of the motor you learn how to use it smoothly. the bike handles excellent for how basic it is built!
The engine puts out about 75bhp with overall has a brilliant top speed and is very quick off the line. it goes 0-60 in under 4 seconds and gets up to speed fast and smoothly and pulls well with your pillion passenger and luggage.
I put roughly £10 fuel in just over weekly and it gets me quite some miles! they do roughly 60mpg+ dependant on your riding style of course! but it is very economical and efficient!
My MT07 is 3 years old and has never broken down. no rust or corrosion to the body or engine. asking as the bike is well maintained it will surprise you how well they are built.
the braking is brilliant but the is room for improvement but it does the job. everything acts together well ; suspension, brakes, tyres. I have never experienced any loss of traction of any kind. my bike came with michelin pr3's and have lasted roughly 7k miles and have never let me down until a nail de-inflated one

Lovely and light feeling, flicking and filtering. Suspension leaves a lot to be desired. Expect the front end to plunge forward under medium/heavy front braking. Rear suspension will have you airborne if you hit a bump too fast.
The outstanding feature of the MT07! Punchy and torquey through most of the rev range. Its not as smooth as an inline 4 but who cares it's a twin! and if it had hands it would be giving everyone around it the finger every time you twist the throttle. Top speed isn't the game here its about how fun it is getting there.
I get 130 miles average to a tank of v-power, depending how much you keep it in the ECO rev range displayed on the dash. Servicing is every 6000 miles which should cover the average rider for a year.
Rust is a ever present threat. especially around the swing arm and rear shock. Needs a little more TLC than other bikes to keep it at bay. Riders seat bolt hole threaded after removing the seat a handful of times. Plastics and paint are of good quality.
Very average and as expected for the price point. They'll stop you well enough but they can only be described as basic. ABS is unobtrusive unless you grab a handful in an emergency.

The ride of the mt07 is good. But could benefit with having the suspension upgraded and different tyres than the oe spec Bridgestone battlax bt-023. The brakes are good out of box but over time you might want to invest in braided lines and new pads
For a 689cc parallel twin engine it's quite peppy. Has plenty of low down torque thanks to the cross plane crank. Could do with a remap if you change the exhaust for a full decat system
Since having the power commander and exhaust system fitted providing I ride sensibly I can squeeze 160 miles out of the 14 litre tank but if I ride like a tit, which is hard not to when you're on the mt07, I can maybe push 120 miles to the tank. Average using shell fuel, it costs £16 for a full tank of fuel. The 600 mile service cost £80 after the dealer gave me a deal on it, then the 6000 mile service was done by myself and cost £40 in parts for the yamalube oil, filter and sump plug washer.
The build quality isn't that great. The finish on some of the parts isn't the best, I have had to replace the water pump coolant pipes under warranty as they corroded even under regular cleaning through winter riding. Would also recommend replacing the standard hardware to stainless or probolt ones
The brakes are a yamaha own twin caliper twin piston axial mounted system on the front with a single caliper in the rear. From 2016 onwards the mt07 comes with abs as standard and under hard braking the abs kicks in but isn't an intrusive abs. My personal mt07 may need new pads soon as I have done close to 8000 miles and they're starting to lose their bite
