KTM 1290 Super Adventure Bike Overview
Despite making the 1301 CC engine Euro compliant, the KTM 1290 Super Adventure still shares common features with the earlier 2015 model. You get the same 100ft lb torque and 160bhp power that makes it a dream for hardcore bikers. With a brilliant WP suspension, ABS, lean sensitive traction and four rider modes, it packs a powerful punch.
With a swanky 6.5 inch full colour dash and a host of rider aids, it is a pleasure to navigate. Riders can alter the bike’s handling on the move with the facility to change modes seamlessly. Depending on the weather, you can switch modes and increase rider aids as per requirement. Whether it is dry sunny weather or rain, the handling is superb on all kinds of terrain.
Ride the KTM 1290 Super Adventure on mountainous terrain in its sports mode or on the highway and it is a beast waiting to be unleashed. Switch to city traffic into cruise control and you will be surprised to see its transformation as it offers easy manoeuvrability whatever the traffic. With feather touch steering, and a host of accompaniments, including a much needed iPhone holder among other optional extras, it is a fabulous bike to own.
With the best in its class, cornering headlights for night rides and manually adjustable screen, everything about the bike spells comfort and exceeds expectations. KTM has stated that the 1290 Super Adventure is the most extreme adventure bike and it definitely walks the talk. The new model is lighter, more appealing and boasts all the credentials expected from a world class adventure bike.

Seat felt hard at first but got more comfortable with the miles. Great long distance bike
Lovely torque rich motor that flies in the mid range.
Better than they need to be.
Looks a big bike but the low centre of gravity means the balance when pushing or riding is fantastic.
Lovely torque rich motor that flies in the mid range.
Fuel consumption depends on you, from very good to poor. Servicing seems a little expensive.

Screen scratches too easily
Pros
All the toys – I search for extras – but I have everything – heated grips, heated seats inc pillion, full luggage, aux lights. Fast, yes, comfy, yes. Definitely reliable so far. Looks big but flies – and it inspires lots of confidence.
Cons
Led lights, which have appeared on the newer spec bike anyway. Not a dealer in every town, but you can build up a good relationship with them when you find one.

Change the settings and seat as you go – no faff with spanners. Choose and forget. Not a problem handling 2 16stone + blokes.
More than required for a bike like this but it's bloody good fun. Front gets light when delivering high revs – especially with pillion. Goes like a sports bike on your own. It's already given me 3 points!!! Naughty naughty.
30 litre tank – so takes a few quid to fill it – although 50+mpg will help matters. No issues yet and will service it mostly myself.
So far so good. Hope I don't get any electrical issues – could be expensive!!
Bikes got 8k miles and the front has a vibe – previous owner might have ridden them or something – reckon a good clean up of the pads may help. Might as well upgrade to better pads though if they are coming apart!!
