Kawasaki ER-5 Bike Overview
The Kawasaki ER-5 is a low seat, basic bike that is a good choice for those who simply want to get from one place to another without the need of all of the gadgetry that usually comes with today’s motorbikes.
It has been dubbed a straightforward, easy bike that has parallel-twin engine that gives 498cc and 48 bhp, not the fastest machine out there but, if you’re not looking for speed then you won’t mind this model. Its 46 mpg and 170 miles range is modest but, despite this, it is very good on fuel, its tyres are really built to last and its gearbox will last a good few years before needing to be replaced.
For ride quality, the Kawasaki ER-5 pips its other rivals to the post. However, even though it is a good ride, the brakes aren’t considered to be of good quality so it’s advised to get them replaced. Another issue with the Kawasaki ER-5 is that it can corrode easier than other Kawasaki models and therefore needs to washed regularly and sprayed frequently with spray to prevent water causing your bike to rust.
It is incredibly cheap to buy and to run, with insurance prices being so affordable, it is a great run around for the summer and winter months but, be warned, motorways are its weakness and it will really struggle with two people on the bike without a side-car.

It is very comfortable and fine with a pillion on board but I don't think it is highly suitable real long distance.
Very well made and even though it is 22 years old still in good condition.
Hydraulic brakes disc front drum rear not the best but I have no problem with them.
Very easy to ride.
Not the most powerful or fastest on the road but at my age it is ideal.
I haven't had it long enough to be certain but so far all is good.

Serves me well
Pros
Reliable and the value has bottomed out so no depreciation. A fantastic commuter bike that can be used for touring. In fact a really good all rounder.
Cons
There's really nothing to improve on this model.

With Brigestone tyres handles good enough. It's no sports bike but it was never meant to be.
Plenty of power for a 500cc after all its a commuter bike
There's really nothing to improve on this model.
This one is definitely a fixer up, but with TLC is a very reliable machine. No real faults to mention.
Stops as it should. Front disc and a drum on the rear can haul it down from motorway speed fast enough.
