BMW K1300 R Bike Overview
If you liked the BMW K1200 R – you’ll love the K1300 R. BMW updated its bonkers mega-naked machine in 2009, with a capacity increase, more power and torque, and lighter weight from chassis tweaks. The K range also saw a slew of new equipment updates, with refined traction control and ABS setups, updated ESA semi-active electronic suspension adjustment and smart quickshifter setup.
On the road, the K1300 R is as crazy as you want it to be. On a steady commute to work, say, the engine is smooth, with clean throttle control and easy low-down power. The forward-canted engine keeps the weight down low, and it’s much more manageable through town that you might think.
Start tapping into the full 173bhp on offer from the inline-four motor though, and things quickly get exciting. BMW didn’t mess about with this engine design, and it’s a proper high-performance lump. There’s stacks of drive everywhere in the rev range, and only your licence and sense of self-preservation will hold you back…
The K1300 R was discontinued in 2015, with BMW’s smaller, lighter and sharper S1000 R taking over the super-naked mantle. The S1000 R is a better bike, for sure – but we do miss the brutal, crazy nature of the K1300 R.

Sure footed but is heavy at low speed
Really strong from low revs and remarkably economical
Heavy.
Pros
Best all round bike I know of. I've been coming to the NEC for the last 7 years and I've not seen anything better!
Cons
Nothing.

Excellent speed, stability and comfort
Bloody fast
Nothing.
Pros
It's not actually that heavy and the panniers make it a fun tourer, it's a great 'do everything' machine
Cons
It's a bit aggressive in town riding, I'd love electronic riding modes to tame the torque.

For such a big bike it handles well and I love the lack of front end dive
The torque from this engine is monstruous and makes the S1000 engine feel 'weak' low down
It's not great on fuel or tyres and the servicing isn't cheap but it's not been ridiculous so far
No problems to report
whilst not the latest brembos, they're pretty nice and do the job very well
