Ducati Hypermotard 796 Bike Overview

Released just a couple of years after the original Hypermotard 1100, the 796 was created by Ducati as an accessible, versatile and stylish bike which would be equally at home on the straight and narrow stretches of road as it would tearing around corners on windy country lanes and reviews of the bike would certainly suggest that it does just that.  Featuring a new two-valve, air-cooled L-twin engine, the 796 does a good job of combining performance and utility.

That said, riders have reported that the 796 can be uncomfortable to ride at times, particularly commenting on the juddering sensation experienced during low revs and low speeds.  There is some debate as to whether this is a bike which is best ridden at high speeds or in a more urban setting.  Some riders are happy to overlook the shaking due to the fact that the bike is almost 12kg lighter than its predecessor with the seat set 20mm lower making it much easier to place feet on the floor when stopped at traffic lights.

Although the 796 doesn’t perform as well as some of the other Ducati bikes in this range, it is an extremely affordable bike so a good way to get hold of a Ducati bike if this is your first purchase.  It is also possible to overcome the foibles of the bike when considering overall affordability, performance level and design.
