Shobdon Airfield Cafe

The area of the café formerly served use as Shobdon Airfield, when it opened in 1940 at the start of World War II. It was originally named Pembridge Landing Ground and the very first aircraft based here was the legendary Westland Lysander. As a tribute, the cafe has named a breakfast option by the same name. It was later upgraded in 1941, when a hard runway was added and the place was renamed as Shobdon Airfield.

In the post war period, the airfield was abandoned by the military. It fell into a state of disrepair right up to the early sixties until a newly formed flying club was permitted to use its facilities. It still is going strong till the present day.

Visitors can drop into the cafe located in the main clubhouse building, which is open to bikers and the public all the days of the week, 365 days a year.

They offer a fine menu that caters to a variety of tastes. Shobdon Cafe is a popular haunt with bikers, cyclists, aviation enthusiasts and car clubs, with a number of events held all through the year. When the weather is good you could sit outside enjoy your meal and get a great view of the surrounding area. There is also place for caravans and camping, as well as a licensed bar.
