Honda Africa Twin CRF1100 Overview
One of the newer updated bikes in Honda’s adventure sports bike range, the Africa Twin CRF1100 latest version is more off-road focus but it can still handle itself on UK roads.
Agile, kitted with the latest technology and lighter than previous Africa Twin’s, the latest CRF1100 has been kitted out with a parallel twin engine giving a much needed boost from 998cc to 1084cc – a notable improvement! On roads it will definitely fulfill its purpose but off-road its given an extra grunt at low speeds to help navigating trickier terrains; the best of both worlds perhaps?!
The Africa Twin comes with a price tag of around £13,000 – there’s plenty of new tech and more power on the machine, ideal if you’re someone who loves off-road riding. However, other options like the Yamaha Tenere 700 come in a lot cheaper with the sacrifice of the tech upgrade!

Pros
Rider comfort, tractable motor and great visibility from a nice high riding position. Now with cruise control too which is handy for long motorway stints and takes the worry out of speedo watching where there are miles of average speed cameras to navigate.
Cons
Maybe more power and a higher red line. I know it's a twin but if KTM can find the horses, why can't any other manufacturer.

Like a Chesterfield armchair. So comfy, good tall view of the road, great seat to footpeg distance so no aching knees or cramping thighs on long journeys.
Never broken down, no problems whatsoever. Gear change is smooth as is power delivery.
The brakes are excellent, confidence inspiring grip from the tyres. A little bit nose divey on the front end but this can be minimised by trail braking the rear brake. Mine is the standard suspension but there is electronic adjustable suspension available as an extra cost option which apparently resolves the issue but I couldn't justify the cost for such a miniscule issue.
It's no sportsbike and although statically heavy, the moment you engage the clutch and pull away, the bike feels lightweight and well balanced. Tyres are Metzelers tubeless and instill much more confidence that the Dunlop tubed tyres of the previous 1000 model.
Sweet torquey twin that's as comfortable chugging around in top gear or nudging the red line nailing it. It really is a very good tractable motor with predictable power delivery.
Super economical. Haven't seen less than 46 mpg and had over 62mpg on a recent tour.
Pros
It's amazing engine noise.

Braking very smooth.
Corners well with smooth liner power delivery. Nice motorcycle to move around feels very light.
Powerful motorcycle delivery isn't intimidating.
Depending on your riding style fuel consumption is very good.
