Aprilia Tuono 125 Bike Overview
‘Tuono’ means ‘thunder’ in Italian, and it’s long been the name for Aprilia’s range of high-powered naked superbikes. It’s a fitting title for the awesome 1,000cc V-twin and V-four super-nakeds, but it’s a little bit of a misnomer here, on a 15bhp 125cc learner machine… The engine comes from the RS125 sportsbike, so it shares the statutorily-mandated wheezy power output, but the single-cylinder four-stroke engine is bolted into a naked roadster chassis. That’s based on the RS125 as well though – so you get a sweet aluminium beam frame, and a trick asymmetric swingarm, plus 40mm USD forks, four-piston radial front brake caliper and slick Y-spoked forged wheels.
The top fairing has the same styling as its bigger sibling, with RSV4-style headlamps and aerodynamic radiator shrouds, and from a distance, it does look like a bigger bike – always good in the learner legal sector…
Like the four-stroke 125, there’s no easy post-test power de-restrictions, as found on the old two-stroke engines of the 1980s and 90s. That’s a shame, since it means the slick, well-specced Tuono can’t be re-used as a nippy 25bhp mini roadster for full licence holders.
