Aprilia SR 50 Bike Overview
As you’d expect from an Aprilia model, the SR 50 is very well built and reliable. The scooter is designed for roaming around towns and cities, with great handling and comfort.
Restricted to 30mph, the engine is an electric start, single-cylinder, liquid-cooled 49cc two-stroke with a CVT gearbox. Though, de-restricted the scooter can reach up to 50mph.
The SR 50 is useful for storage, there is enough space in the under seat facility for a full face helmet and an extra glove box on the front seat.
Perfect for a 16-year old’s first bike, there is a fine selection of colours to choose from, with red, blue, silver, red/black, black, orange/white and orange on offer. Though it is aimed at younger less experienced riders, this scooter is on the more pricey side, setting you back £2,400 which for a scooter is an exceptional amount of money. As the SR 50 has been around since 2004, there are plenty of older models to choose from for a more desirable price.

Cons

A good reliable runaround as long as it’s not left for long periods without starting.
Have had serious rust issues with the exhaust and with exhaust retaining bolts loosening from vibration. Otherwise the rest has been reliable apart from a slightly higher oil usage than expected.
The brakes are discs and very reliable the braking is firm and stops easily. As mentioned earlier due to being a small and lightweight bike care need to be taken on wet days and slippery surfaces when braking.
Very light and easy to manoeuvre, comfortable for even long rides, care needs to taken on wet or slide surfaces due to the light weight of the moped.
It is a steady runner, and will run all day at the restricted speed around 30mph. You can easily de-restrict it if you hold a licence suitable and it can run approx 50mph again all day if you wish to.
Over all you get over 110 miles to the gallon and the a litre of oil around 900 to a 1000miles tyres are reasonably cheap and servicing is inexpensive as it’s a very simple and easy moped to access and service

The seating position is great and the seat is good for longer rides.
No problems.
Amazing grip and brakes are strong when you need them.
The ride is very smooth, although the bike is quite heavy for a scooter, it is very easy to handle at all speeds.
For a scooter the engine is quite powerful.
Fuel economy is okay could be better.
